The art of eating alone

Order the most expensive item on the menu
Drink beer straight from the bottle
Diddle on your cell phone every 3 minutes
Put a napkin on your lap
Chew slowly, never hurry
Contemplate on ordering another beer
Look other customers straight in the eye
Call servers by the name on their plate tags
Smile at total strangers
Definitely order dessert
Never sing along with the house music
Manage a sly smile after the last bite
Linger for another 10 minutes after paying
Leave a generous tip
Never apologize for being alone

Midflight

Airborn, floating
Never wanting to land
Defiant of gravity
I lose sight of the ground

Suspended in this realm
Things move as if on cue
The clouds part in anticipation
Of my return, long overdue

Yet not wanting to awake
I stay in limbo
My soul too lazy to tread
The hard earth of my destiny
